Are these voice recorded in all hospitals?
I would be surprised if any are recorded.
So would I. Out of interest, the Mental Health Tribunal record remote hearings but not hearings held in person (see Recording of hearings (MHT) - Mental Health Law Online).
It’s a crying shame that with all the easily available technology around, that Manager’s Hearings are not fully recorded routinely.
Look - I often hear staff in hospitals with their anxious talk about ‘being recorded’ covertly. What are they worried about - if all that they are saying is correct, appropriate and fact-based? Of course not everybody is like that - and therefore I am the exception to ‘cultural rules’. Record away - be my guest! Publish it on the internet if you like - ‘nothing to hide’.
But then again I’m not ‘a Hospital Managers’ hearing. Okay.. okay… someone is going to lecture me on ‘Data Protection’, ‘third party rules’, consent and GDPR etc - as if I don’t know about them. Yes - recording me in a consultation is not the same as a Hospital Managers Hearing.
There are ways of disclosing recordings at Managers’ hearings to protect a number of issues and potential complications. But.. but.. nobody wants to exert the effort to do that. Trusts don’t have money to spend on that - let’s just speak it as it really is. It is about time which is money.
In other words full transparency has a cost to it and nobody likes cost.
Sidebar: I’ve recorded interviews with paitents who have consented, on Trust devices. My explanations are for the purposes of accuracy of creating accurate documentation. I offer paitents to see what notes are made from those recordings. My experience which is bound to be different to everybody else - cuz I’m a lone wolf - is that patients rarely have declined to consent. None have ever asked to see what documentation I made. I infer that my diligence was satisfying enough. Patients actually like accuracy in documentation. Many have told me that they have been terribly disappointed when they read their notes and discover things that they never said. I believe them.
Nothing to hide - nothing to declare => record it!
