My client was placed on a Community Treatment Order (Section 17A) on 10 December 2024. The CTO was due to expire at midnight on 9 June 2025 (six months), but it was renewed on 3 June 2025. Does the original start date(10/12/24) change, or does it remain the same? Does the renewal period start from 10 June 2025 or from 3 June 2025?
The original date doesn’t change. The six month extension starts from when the CTO would otherwise have expired - so in this case 10 June. See section 20A(3) of the Act.
