I’m currently on maternity leave due to return to work in March. I’d like to do at least a couple of KIT days to ease myself back into work but can’t quite envisage how it would work in mental health law practice. If anyone has used KIT days as a MH lawyer whilst on mat leave it would be great to hear from you as to how you spent your time! Many thanks
Not from an MH law perspective but, from an HR perspective, KIT days can include training, attending a 1-hour team meeting, etc (even that 1 hour will count as 1 of your KIT days unless your employer’s policy has a mutually agreed contractual arrangement to beneficially vary this). I wouldn’t have thought casework would be allocated (even if you request it) but getting updates on status could be. Recommendations for employers these days is to treat maternity returners as new starters and provide a modified induction. As KIT days are for your benefit, and optional, you could maybe request that or suggest whatever it is you feel you will need as part of getting ready to return?
How about spending half a day listening to a Court of Protection case? Some are in person and some are virtual. Always very interesting!
Thank you, this is particularly helpful!
